Well, first of all, my only other experience with DA:O DLC is what little I could stomach of Witch Hunt, so you can imagine how much more I appreciate Awakening now |D
I'm surprised by how much fun I'm having! The game started off on a really positive note when Alistair visited (in Origins, I made him king and married him n__n), called me "dear wife," and then kissed me~ >3<
I like how the story stays true to the original game in giving you choices, and, of course, the moral choice might not always be the BEST choice (which, as a neutral good player, I enjoy). As for characters...well, I really dislike Sigrun, but mostly because I made a joking comment to her AND SHE TOOK IT SERIOUSLY and then I lost approval points u__u I really like Nathaniel! Especially as a Cousland, heheheh...I think he's really interesting and I enjoy his banter with the other characters. Oghren is Oghren |D Velanna...well, I just recruited her last night. So far, I do like her, but she's very...tsun, aha...
I think there's another character to recruit that I haven't met yet, so.
OKAY BUT, for the one you're probably most interested in: Anders! I like him, but I'm also wary of him. He feels like he was designed to be the stand-in for Alistair, now that Alistair is no longer in the party. I mean, don't get me wrong, Anders definitely has his own brand of humor that differentiates him from Alistair, but some of Anders' responses to events (such as when we realize that the Darkspawn have been duping Velanna) really strike me as similar to how Alistair would respond AND IT JUST FILLS ME WITH CONFLICTED FEELINGS. I'm also very bitter, because I love Anders' original robes, so every time I go to upgrade his robes, I ultimately sell the newer, better robes...BECAUSE HIS OLD ROBES MAKE HIM LOOK HOT I'm not superficial, I'm not, I'm not!!
As much as I'm enjoying Awakening, I'm having some issues with it as well. The biggest problem is the lag. I have a VERY high-end laptop (I can play Skyrim on ultra settings, for example). I had no problem playing Origins, no lag EVER. In Awakening, the lag is SO bad at times that a battle can take me 10 minutes as opposed to 1. I know the lag has nothing to do with my graphics (I tried putting my graphics on the lowest settings, no change in lag). Having researched it a little, it seems this isn't an uncommon issue with the game. Did you ever have problems with lag, Jes? :|a
Vigil's Keep is nice, but I really miss the campfire-in-the-woods setting ;~; It was much more companionable! But this is a minor thing for me, so it's okay :3
The villains(?) of the game are interesting (for now, because I'm not sure if there are more, I'm referring to the Mother and the Architect). I'm admittedly REALLY interested in discovering more about them, so! :D
I've been doing every quest as I've come across them, so I haven't started the marshes area yet (Blackmarsh? I forget what it's called). We were kidnapped by the Architect in the mines already, though. Can you gauge how far into the game I am? Am I halfway through? :O
Yeah, there are definite similarities between Anders and Alistair. But since, as you already know, I strongly dislike Alistair, that didn't bother me as much? Anders was more palatable to me because he had the things I did like about Alistair, plus a really sexy voice, plus vanity and selfishness, plus being a mage - and minus the hypocrisy and whininess that distanced me from Alistair's character. (And with the robes, if go to - Octam's Grocer, I think it is, on the left side of the Amaranthine market, bottom left corner, you can get a really nice set of orange robes that compliment his colouring so well. ... Sob. I have an Awakening!Anders obsession, okay. I don't remember the name but the item description is something about a shy, reclusive mage.)
PLUS HE'S A MAGE. I love mages in the DA:O games. My PC is almost always a mage and they tend to be the most interesting characters to me, although there are a few exceptions. (CoughWynnecough.)
Nathaniel I enjoyed, simply because had the closest thing to a character arc that you can get in a ten hour game. And he didn't go out of his way to froth at the mouth at the player character for being a Cousland. Sigrun I also enjoyed just for the fact that she was still cheery despite being a Legionnaire, but I didn't have the same experience you did with her approval, so.
Velanna... well. She's. There. I guess.
Regarding the lag! I actually played all the DA games on my 360, so nope. But Awakening is notoriously buggy which is why I would have recommended you play it on a separate console if I had realised. /facepalm.
You're more than halfway through, I believe! After Blackmarsh there is another thing, and then another thing, both of which are about half the gameplay time of the previous main quests, and then you're done! After getting grabbed by the Architect, you're more than halfway done that particular quest as well.
LOL, I really like how we're both drawn to similar characters. I could wax lyrical on Alistair all day long, I love him so much ;~;
OKAY I WILL TRY TO FIND THESE ROBES, hahaha. I'm just very attached to how his current robes show off those nice biceps, mm yes...
Yes, I agree about mages. Ultimately (at least in DA:O and the DLC), mages tend to have the strongest DPS and use in battle too, so. I prefer to take ALL the mages with me into the field, SO IT'S ALWAYS A PLUS WHEN THE MAGE CHARACTERS ARE INTERESTING goddamn Wynne.
Before our little mishap, I thought Sigrun was cute. I think female Dwarves in general are cute though, so |D
PFFFT, FIGURES. And no, it's cool. I've actually bought the DLC with the original game: it was all one big package! I wouldn't have been able to switch to console, so no worries! <3
EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED TO HEAR. I'm trying to beat this while I'm still on spring break, so |D
